This lab will cover the top five behavioral tips all cat parents should know. In this laboratory we will cover the essentials of proper feline behavioral husbandry and care – i.e. the information veterinarians and staff members should be discussing with new kitten/cat parents. Questions we will address include:

  • What is the best litterbox?
  • What type of toys should I get and how should I play with my cat?
  • How do I get my cat to like visitors and my other cats?
  • How do I prevent my cat from scratching the furniture?
  • How do I get my cat used to having her nails trimmed and being brushed?

Information will be put into practical use through demonstrations using kittens and adolescent cats.  Different types of toys and play will be demonstrated as well as desensitization to handling for nail trims and pilling.

General conference registration is required to attend laboratory sessions.

This lab is intended primarily for our Japanese technicians, but is open to all registrants. The lectures are given in English and translated live to Japanese.
Lab limited to 36 participants.

Interested in learning the latest endoscopic techniques for diagnosing and treating respiratory and urinary diseases in small animals? Look no further! This workshop teaches the indications and proper techniques for using endoscopes in the respiratory and urinary tracts of dogs. Following classroom instruction and live instructor demonstrations, the hands-on session gives participants the opportunity to practice a variety of endoscopic procedures using both rigid and flexible scopes. The same scopes are used for both respiratory and urinary endoscopy – allowing you to maximize the use of your endoscopy system.

Urinary Program Objectives
• Understand common indications for cystoscopy, urethroscopy and vaginoscopy in female dogs
• Understand common indications for cystoscopy, urethroscopy and prepucoscopy in male dogs
• Discuss and practice appropriate scope handling and technique for performing uroendosopy in male and female dogs
• Discuss and practice performance of biopsy during uroendoscopy in male dogs
• Review use of cystoscopes during small diameter stone removal, voiding hydropropulsion and foreign body removal
• Discuss how to incorporate uroendoscopy into a complete workup from beginning to end, including multi-modal imaging (i.e. ultrasound and radiography)

Respiratory Program Objectives
• Understand the common indications for rhinoscopy, nasopharyngoscopy, and bronchoscopy
• Learn proper scope handling technique for rhinoscopy, nasopharyngoscopy, and bronchoscopy
• Learn biopsy techniques for rhinoscopy, nasopharyngoscopy, and bronchoscopy
• Practice bronchoalveolar lavage technique for bronchoscopy
• Practice foreign body retrieval for rhinoscopy and bronchoscopy
• Learn one-lung ventilation technique for bronchoscopy
• Learn clotrimazole infusion technique for sinonasal aspergillosis
