Dental Lab – Friday Nov 11, 2022
Don’t Be Dull – Instrument sharpening lab

Knowledge and skill of the veterinary professional are instrumental to the successful outcome of any dental procedure. A third and often overlooked contributing factor to a successful procedure is the instrumentation and equipment used. Not only is the appropriate selection and correct use of dental instrumentation and equipment important, the care and maintenance they receive greatly impacts their effectiveness. Well maintained, sharp, dental hand instruments enable the veterinary professional to complete the procedure at hand more efficiently, with less trauma to the patient. This lab will address sharpening materials needed, maintenance of stones, differences between scalers & curettes, how to sharpen (luxators, elevators, scalers, curettes, root tip picks, periosteal elevators, bone curettes, etc.), as well as how to do minor repairs on damaged and/or misshapen instruments. Participants should bring their own instruments to the lab and will have an opportunity to practice sharpening techniques using stones provided by Serona Animal Health.

This lab is offered during two identical sessions from 8:30am-9:45am and 10:00am-11:15am on Friday 11/11. Additional labs may be added depending on demand. This lab is open to all veterinarians, technicians, and support staff.

Dental Lab – Friday Nov 11, 2022
Know Your Instruments: What to Use, When, and How

The majority of veterinarians are graduating with little to no experience with dental equipment, while also being expected to perform competent exodontics following graduation. The goal of this lab is to put commonly used periodontal and extraction instruments into the hands of general practitioners as we discuss, one instrument at a time, how to hold the instrument, when to use it, and how to use it. Dental burs will also be covered. Serona Animal Health will be providing one basic set of periodontal and extraction instruments, as well as dental burs, per every two or three attendees for the duration of the lab.

This lab is offered from 2:30pm-3:45pm on Friday 11/11. Additional labs may be added depending on demand. This lab is open to all veterinarians, technicians, and support staff.
